Enabling Domain Lock on Cloudflare

Domain lock (transfer lock) prevents your domain from being transferred to another registrar without your authorisation. Cloudflare enables it by default — here's how to verify it's on.

What lock does

Transfer lock blocks unauthorised moves to another registrar. It does not stop DNS edits or renewal — manage those separately.

Step by step

Step 1 Cloudflare → Domain Registration → your domain
Step 2 Look for Transfer Lock — confirm it shows Locked
Step 3 If unlocked → toggle to enable lock
Step 4 Lock stays on until you initiate a transfer

FAQ

What is domain lock?

A setting that prevents your domain from being transferred to another registrar without your explicit approval.

Is domain lock enabled by default in Cloudflare?

Yes — Cloudflare locks domains by default. Verify it's still on in Domain Registration settings.

Does domain lock affect DNS changes?

No. Lock only prevents transfers. You can still update DNS records, renew, and manage the domain normally.

How do I unlock for a transfer?

Cloudflare → Domain Registration → your domain → disable Transfer Lock → request auth code.

Will domain lock prevent my domain from expiring?

No — lock and renewal are separate. Enable Auto-Renew for expiry protection.
